If you're looking for challenging courses to play as one of your short golf breaks in South Wales then you should definitely include the Parc Golf Club near Newport. I'm sure that this course has caught out many an over confident golfer. As a player with a handicap of over 18 I would recommend that you treat this challenging course with respect and take plenty of balls. A lot of the holes are narrow with plenty of magnetic water hazards. The 18th is a pretty Par 3 S.I. 14 that will allow to leave the course with a spring in your step right into the welcoming club house. The food wasn't bad either. You should add this to your golf weekend if you are looking for a challenge.
