St Mellons Golf Club
First opened in 1936, St Mellons is a lovely parkland course on the eastern edge of the bustling Capital city of Cardiff. It is unique in that it straddles two counties - Gwent and South Glamorgan - but because the Clubhouse is in Gwent it is to that Union that the Club belongs.
The course is laid out in the shape of a clover leaf and provides one of the best tests of golf in South Wales.
Since the course was opened some of the worlds finest players have played it including Lyle; Barnes; Torrance; James; Darcy and Antonio Garrido. Indeed, Garrido held the touring Professionals course record for many years.

As part of a competition we played this course last year, which was one of the highlights of the year. As Cardiff golf goes it is close to the city on the main road east, A48, only 15mins drive from the centre. We did a few golf weekend breaks like this and St Mellons would be on the list again for golf in wales. The course offers a variety of wide and narrow holes with some challenging approaches. A couple of holes were in repair at the time, which was a little disappointing but the course in general was terrific. Golf courses in wales are usually quite hilly, but this course was largely flat and not over long making it a comfortable playing experience. The club house is in a great position and the food laid on was just great.
