The Ryder Cup 2010

Every two years the greatest golfers in the world play for the Ryder Cup.  When Samuel Ryder donated the trophy who would have thought that the almost one hundred years on a fierce battle would take place every two years where golfers play the greatest team tournament for pride and country.

In 2010 the competition descends on Wales for the first time in its history. The Celtic Manor in Newport, South Wales.  A central component of Wales’ successful bid was The Celtic Manor Resort’s commitment to build a golf course to host the Ryder Cup. From the announcement that Wales had the Ryder Cup in September 2001, the Celtic Manor Resort has essentially produced a purpose built venue with an excellent course suitably titled, “The Twenty Ten Course”. 

The course measures near 7,500 yards from the back tees and is par 71.  Water features on half of the holes and has no fewer than six signature holes.

The Twenty Ten Course opened in July 2007 and already is known as a one of the world’s must-play layouts.   It has already held the Welsh Open so the world’s best golfers are already aware of the course’s potential for the Ryder Cup.

A big part of the Ryder Cup is the crowd participation and the Twenty Ten Ryder Cup Course has been designed to allow 50,000 spectators to get up close and personal to the action.  The layout allows large galleries to follow the small number of concurrent matches .  With only one fairway crossing and open views of the 16th, 17th and 18th holes the course will be enjoyed as much part the golf fans as the players.
